A print version of this study appeared as "'An Imaginative Woman': From Manuscript to Wessex Edition" in the Thomas Hardy Journal, 9:3 (October 1993), 76-83. The author, Martin Ray, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English of the University of Aberdeen.
