THE 50th MEMORIAL ANNUAL MEETING OF THE THOMAS HARDY SOCIETY OF JAPAN

The 50th Annual Meeting of the Thomas Hardy Society of Japan was held at Rissho University, Osaki, Tokyo invited by Prof. Shigeru Fujita on October 27, 2007. Some eighty members throughout Japan participated in it.

 

I. Welcome Address by Hiroki Takamura (President, Prof. at Rissho University).

 

IIa. Two research papers were read chaired by Ken-ichi Tsuji (Lecturer at Seiryo Women's Junior College)

 

 i.  "The Problem of Inheritance in A Laodicean", by Mai Osada (Lecturer at Daito Bunka University)

 

 ii. "Hardy's Depiction of Nature in Tess of the d'Urbervilles, by Kyoko Seimiya (Graduate student at Japan Women's University)

 

IIb. Two research papers were read chaired by Itsuyo Shimizu (Prof. at Kinki University)

 

 i.  "On the Communality of Egdon Heath" by Yuki Tsuchiya (Research Associate at Jissen Women's University)

 

 ii.  "Genealogy of The Poor Man and the Lady Motif from Thomas Hardy through Mary E. Mann to D.H.Lawrence" by Mitsu Hagiwara (Lecturer at Kanto Gakuin University)

 

III. Business Meeting was held chaired by Kyoko Nagamatsu (Prof. at Chuo University).

 

  Eighty members participated in the business meeting. It was decided that the 51st Annual Meeting will be convened at Seiryo Women's Junior College, Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture on November 1, 2008 invited by Ken-ichi Tsuji (Lecturer at Seiryo Women's Junior College)
